IMPROVING THE PRODUCTIVITY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF SUBSURFACE DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEMS THAT USE OLIVE OIL MILL WASTE AS FERTILISER THROUGH THE USE OF NANOBUBBLES

Supra-Autonomous Operational Groups (SOGs) are key partnerships for the development of innovative actions. They allow us to address present and future challenges in a very practical way by taking advantage of a wide range of approaches. This guarantees success in finding the best solutions. Its actions are developed through joint and coordinated work within the framework of the European Innovation Partnership on Productive and Sustainable Agriculture.

Against this backdrop, G.O. Subalma faces the ambitious challenge of improving productivity, competitiveness and sustainability in olive and olive oil production. It is not in vain that Spain is the world’s leading exporter of olive oil, which is why the proper treatment of the waste derived from the oil production process is of vital importance, and the recovery of this waste is one of the sector’s main concerns.

In this way, AZUD is working to generate alternatives that favour a substantial improvement in sustainable practices and the circular economy in the olive industry, allowing the use of liquid by-products from oil production in precision irrigation systems, specifically in subsurface drip irrigation systems (RGS).

It also develops the necessary tools to allow its use in the agricultural production phase, thereby reducing investment in inputs, improving the water efficiency of irrigation practices and generating various agronomic benefits.

G.O. Subalma promotes the modernisation of irrigation, increases the productivity, sustainability and competitiveness of olive groves and encourages the dissemination of knowledge to universalise the use of these techniques.

  • FUNDING:

G.O. Subalma belongs to the call for aid for the implementation of innovation projects of general interest by operational groups of the European Association for Innovation in Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (AEI-Agri), in the framework of the National Programme for Rural Development 2014-2020, called in 2020 by the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund, O. A. (FEGA).

The total amount of the investment is 568,758.11 €. It is 80% co-financed by the EAFRD fund and 20% by the MAPA.

The managing authority responsible for the implementation of this EAFRD assistance and its national share is the Directorate-General for Rural Development, Innovation and Agri-food Training (DGDRIFA).
