This project was carried out in one of the driest and hottest places in the world. Located in Saudi Arabia, this park aims to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors by integrating natural landscapes, recreational facilities, and cultural institutions.
In addition, it aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which promotes sustainability, environmental awareness, and community well-being. The park will feature vast green areas, lakes, walking paths, bike lanes, and other leisure and cultural facilities.
The extreme climatic conditions of Saudi Arabia, with its arid climate and limited water resources, presented significant challenges in maintaining large green areas and ecosystems in a desert environment.
One of the biggest obstacles was developing a large-scale park that could be sustainable in a region with high water evaporation due to extreme temperatures, especially when it came to irrigating the vast green areas.
The project needed to ensure that the park’s vegetation remained hydrated without excessive water consumption. At the same time, the irrigation system had to be energy-efficient, guaranteeing long-term sustainability.
To address these challenges, a Sub-surface Drip Irrigation (SDI) system was implemented, offering a highly efficient and sustainable solution. This system enables smarter use of both water and energy, significantly reducing water and energy consumption compared to traditional irrigation methods.
Sub-surface Drip Irrigation not only delivers precise irrigation directly to the plant roots but also minimizes losses due to evaporation and runoff, resulting in up to 30% savings in water resources.
The installed system promotes not only more efficient water use but also optimizes the use of fertilizers, energy, and labor, making operations sustainable.
Additionally, advanced technologies were employed, such as the reuse of treated wastewater and the planting of drought-resistant native species, further reducing resource consumption.
Advanced, efficient, and safe filtration solutions were also adopted, such as the AZUD HELIX AUTOMATIC self-cleaning disc filtration system, equipped with the patented AZUD HELIX system that minimizes the frequency of self-cleaning activation. The AZUD DLP TECHNOLOGY ensures low water and energy consumption due to its high self-cleaning efficiency, even at low operating pressure. All these features contribute to greater sustainability and efficiency in water and energy management.
The solution includes smart irrigation systems that monitor soil moisture and climate data, ensuring water is applied only when and where it’s needed. This not only prevents water waste but also ensures precise delivery to the plants.
The Sub-surface Drip Irrigation system installed in the park, featuring AZUD PREMIER HCNL irrigation driplines, provides several key benefits:
This innovative approach to water management in an arid environment sets a new standard for large-scale urban developments in water-scarce regions.
