For this project, AZUD experts have implemented a SUB-SURFACE DRIP IRRIGATION system on a 100-hectare farm in hazelnut tree (Yamhill) in Chile, in response to the specific challenges of this region and crop.

Hazelnut cultivation faces several challenges in Chile. First, the nuts are harvested using sweepers that collect them from the ground. This can cause damage if irrigation systems are installed at the surface.
In addition, Chile is facing a severe water shortage, making it essential to adopt solutions that minimize water consumption without compromising crop yields.
Following the advice of AZUD experts, this Chilean producer has implemented a system of SUB-SURFACE DRIP IRRIGATION using the irrigation dripline AZUD PREMIER PC AS with emitters at a rate of 2.2 l/h every 50 cm and at a depth of 30 cm.
Two dripline lines were installed 0.80 m from the tree trunk in clay loam soil, along with a Filtration system HELIX AUTOMATIC WEIR 130-micron 4DCL8/10FX.
This solution allows water to be applied directly to the root zone, optimizing its use and reducing water loss through evaporation.
The implementation of the sub-surface drip irrigation system has yielded numerous benefits.
First, hazelnut harvesting has become more efficient, since the absence of dripline prevents damage from harvesters and significantly reduces harvesting costs.
In addition, efficient water use has led to significant water savings in a region where water is a scarce resource.
