Development and Validation of a Semi-Hydroponic System for Sustainable Cultivation (rtc-2014-2141-2).

The HIPOFRUT project aims to develop a technology for the semi-hydroponic cultivation of fruit trees, which makes it possible to significantly reduce the hydraulic conductivity of the soil-root interface and increase the efficiency with which roots absorb water and nutrients, thereby optimizing irrigation water consumption.
The implementation of this innovative system in the standard practices of intensive woody crop cultivation, such as fruit orchards, not only leads to significant optimization of water use and reduced soil nutrient pollution by minimizing leaching, but also allows for increased production due to the complete control it provides over the root zone.

HIPOFRUT (RTC-2014-2141-2) has received funding from the budget of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) and has been co-financed by the European Union under the “Retos-Colaboración” call for proposals of the State Program for Research, Development, and Innovation Aimed at Societal Challenges, within the framework of the 2013–2016 State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation.
