On Sunday, October 25, Murcia enjoyed a great day of track and field with the holding of the 1st Half Marathon AZUD, which premiered in grand style, bringing together more than 500 runners. The area around the Segura River was filled with sports, excitement, and a desire to enjoy an event that has been very well received since its first edition.
Organized by AZUD, in collaboration with the Murcia Region Athletics Federation (FAMU) and the Murcia City Council’s Department of Sports, the event made a strong debut on the regional sports calendar, with all race numbers sold out before registration closed.
As part of the iSportFest 2026 Sports Festival, the competition featured two main distances, each approximately 22 and 8.5 kilometers. The day was rounded out with children’s races, which also gave the youngest participants a chance to shine and allowed families to enjoy track and field together.
Starting and finishing at the Jardines Murcia Río, the Half Marathon took runners along the Segura River embankment to Alcantarilla, the town where AZUD was founded. The route held special significance for the company, allowing it to connect this first edition with its Murcian roots.
A new sporting event that’s making a big splash
The high turnout for this first edition reflects the positive reception of initiatives that encourage participation in sports and promote healthy lifestyles. With this Half Marathon, AZUD takes another step forward in its commitment to Murcia, by organizing an event that brings sports to people of all ages and strengthens its ties with Murcian society.
The collaboration between AZUD, FAMU, and the Murcia City Council has been key to making this new event a reality, which was launched with the hope of carving out a place for itself on the regional sports calendar.
Miguel Ángel Noguera Gómez, the Councilor for Sports for the City of Murcia, praised the initiative:“The City Council is delighted that companies like AZUD are committed to sports and promote initiatives open to all citizens. This race has also allowed participants to enjoy the beautiful setting along the Segura River and has highlighted new spaces for sports activities. The enthusiastic reception of this first edition is the best testament to its success.”

A goal that goes far beyond sports
Sports took center stage that day, but there was also room for solidarity. The first AZUD Half Marathon culminated with the Donation of 7,121 euros to ASPAPROS, an organization that works to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

This contribution shows that initiatives like this can go far beyond the kilometers traveled, also becoming an opportunity to support social causes and contribute to the well-being of the community.
The organizers at AZUD would like to thank all the runners for their participation, the families for their enthusiasm, the volunteers for their dedication, and the partnering organizations for their support, all of which made this first edition possible.
To sum up the day, Alejandro Escolar, CEO of AZUD, noted: “We are very pleased with the response to this first edition. Seeing so many runners and families enjoying the sport encourages us to continue promoting initiatives like this one. We hope that the AZUD Half Marathon will become a highlight on the Murcia Region’s calendar of community races.”
A debut that leaves a lasting impression and paves the way for the AZUD Half Marathon to become a new landmark event on Murcia’s sports calendar.
