The Challenge

The industrial plant had own well water for beverage production, but it had very high concentrations of arsenic, which prevented its use in accordance with the standards required for food use.

As a result, the company was forced to resort to municipal water supply, generating:

  • A high operating costs,
  • A social impact in the surrounding area,
  • And less autonomy in water resource management.

The challenge was to restore the use of well water, ensuring water quality for production and minimizing the environmental impact of the process.

The Solution

After a comprehensive study by the technical team at AZUD and validation through a pilot plant, a system was designed and implemented containerized solution specifically designed for arsenic removal.

The final solution provided by AZUD consists of five containers, incorporating a treatment regimen based on:

  • Disc Filtration to protect subsequent stages,
  • Coagulation and Ultrafiltration, designed to effectively concentrate and remove arsenic from water.

The system rejection, approximately one 3% of the treated flow rate, leads to a system of decantation, where the arsenic precipitates completely. The supernatant water is recovered and returned to the process, resulting in a system of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD).
