The Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) is one of the leading airport operators in Mexico and Latin America, responsible for managing and operating key airport infrastructure that is essential to the country’s air connectivity. Its airports operate under strict standards for safety, operational efficiency, reliability, and environmental compliance, progressively incorporating sustainable solutions into water resource management.
Hermosillo International Airport requires reliable auxiliary service systems that ensure the continuity of airport operations, promoting water treatment and reuse projects that optimize water consumption, reduce environmental impacts, and adapt to the specific conditions of the existing infrastructure.
GAP Hermosillo identified the need to reuse water from a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) Use in services within the airport, as part of its sustainability and operational efficiency strategy.
Although the treated water met certain basic standards, it had characteristics that could cause fouling, corrosion, and operational issues in service systems, so it was essential to have an additional treatment process that would ensure a stable, controlled water quality suitable for reuse.
In addition, the project presented specific technical challenges:
The project was carried out through the installation of a greywater reuse plant AZUD WATERTECH RW DUOX4, designed for water treatment of wastewater from WWTPs and the production of water of suitable quality for industrial use.
The solution was specifically reconfigured to adapt to the actual space constraints of the site, thereby reducing the concentration of dissolved salts and contaminants in the feedwater. As a result, a water—a product with optimal characteristics, suitable for tank storage and subsequent use within the airport premises.
The system’s flexibility and modularity made it possible to meet the defined operational objectives, while integrating efficiently with the existing infrastructure.
