Digitization of water reclamation systems that guarantee the removal of clinically relevant compounds associated with COVID-19.

The DIRELMIVID research project aims to develop and validate various systems for the reclamation of treated wastewater through the application of innovative technologies capable of producing high-quality water suitable for agricultural use.
The project develops efficient techniques that achieve significant removal rates for Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) from secondary effluents of urban wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
CECs are pollutants derived from substances that are commonly used, most of which enter natural waterways through discharges from wastewater treatment plants. These pollutants encompass a wide range of substances of various types, and their main risk lies in their high potential for transformation and bioaccumulation in the environment.
In light of the global health situation in recent years, DIRELMIVID is focusing its primary efforts on monitoring the elimination of contaminants resulting from the increased consumption of medications related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
