Agronaut

Automation of Agronomic Tasks on Intensive Farms Using Robotics IDI-20141220.

AGRONAUTA is an experimental development project that aims to transform and revolutionize the production model for vine tomatoes through a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach, which will lead to a cutting-edge and innovative technological solution: the harvesting and packaging of tomato bunches on-site in the greenhouse using a mobile robotic system, supported by a smart production environment.

The combined efforts of the consortium’s multidisciplinary team are focused on developing a groundbreaking new production system—based on a mobile robot for use in the intensive cultivation of vine tomatoes—capable of performing intelligent analysis and harvesting tasks, supported by a state-of-the-art environment for automation and control that simplifies production work and improves the robot’s accessibility, thereby enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and providing development potential, flexibility, and system reliability.

In this regard, AGRONAUTA has set as its overarching goal the development of a prototype for a revolutionary production system for intensive plastic-covered farming, which will represent a cutting-edge and innovative technological solution on an international scale, with a commitment to achieving clear progress and improvement by developing unique plant production technologies and techniques, such as climate control, Irrigation, automation, artificial intelligence, computer vision, and robotics.

To complete the production cycle, the system is complemented by the development of new packaging systems to be installed on the farm itself and comprehensive production management using management and demand forecasting software.
